The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults(RCIA) and the Rite of Christian Initiation for children of catechetical age (RCIC) is the norm  for all who desire to become Catholic. The rite is not an option; it is the way the Church now welcomes new members. It involves everyone - all Catholics, laity and ordained alike share this apostolate.

 It is a parish based process which leads unbaptised people to full membership of the Catholic Church through the sacraments of baptism, confirmation and eucharist.

 Children of catechetical age (seven years and over) who have not yet been baptised are initiated into the Church by the same parish-based process, suitably adapted to their needs.

 The process is also accepted as the appropriate form of preparation for thise already baptised who seek full communion with the Catholic Church.

Many parishes in the Auckland diocese operate this process. For details of the parish nearest you please contact Pat.

After a national gathering in Wellington in 2007 with Fr Elio Capra, Auckland representatives met together and decided to meet regularly for support, on-going training and information sharing.

Parish-School Collaboration
Also 2 meetings have been held between parish and school representatives to consider ways of collaborating in the initiation of young people coming into the Church through Catholic schools.
